SENTANI, TruePapua.com – US ambassador to Indonesia, Robert O. Blake, Jr. said the presence of PT Freeport contributes to the local economy and Indonesia.
“I can say that the company is a foreign investment that contributes to the local and national economy, which employs 30 thousand people and pays taxes in Indonesia,” he said during a press conference in Sentani, Jayapura regency, Papua, on Friday.
Blake said so when responding to questions from journalists on the sidelines of his working visit in SD Komba, Kampung Yobe, District Sentani, Jayapura district.
“About Maroef (Sjamsoeddin, President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia who resigned) and the internal affairs of the Freeport company, are facts that I am not entitled to comment on,” he said.
“If you wish and if I could I wouldsay that, on behalf of the company, that they (Freeport) is committed to continue to run and collaborate with Indonesia,” he said.
Ambassador Blake and his entourage have been at the District and the city of Jayapura, Papua since Tuesday (19/1) in a working agenda until Saturday (23/1) morning.
Ambassador Blake while in two regions has met with a number of activists for Papua; Papua’s governor and police chief, visited a number of villages in the district of Jayapura and tonight the plan met with Pangda XVII / Cenderawasih Maj Hinsa Siburian.
In relation to the visit in SD Komba, Ambassador Blake wanted to take a closer look USAID-performance programs in education and health that have been running the last few years.
