JAYAPURA, TruePapua.com – Citizens of Raja Ampat Regency can look forward to the state electricity company PLN supplying the regency’s power needs very soon.
PLN general manager for Papua and West Papua, Yohanes Sukrilismono recently stated in Jayapura that power generation which is currently done by a diesel power plant will be taken over by the PLN and will be made official on 17 August.
“We are currently working on it and we plan to make it official on 17 August, including the signing of an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) during the inauguration, said Yohanes (19/5).
“Other than Raja Ampat, we plan to build power plants in Deiyai Regency in Papua Province, Teluk Wondama Regency, and Arfak mountains in West Papua,” he added.
It is difficult for electricity to be run independently or by the regional government since it’s high cost is funded by the regional budget, which puts a heavy burden on the regional governments.
Recognized for his part, the current PT PLN (Persero) is running a program of Papua Light, which is in the program there are four programs will be implemented.
PLN is currently carrying out the Papua Terang program, which consists of electricity for regency capitals, electricity for villages, hours where the consumer can have electricity for several hours, and electricity for Raja Ampat’s outer islands.
